you complete me

Our new bench.

Maybe it doesn't complete me, but it does complete our dining room table.

And because the back is a repurposed headboard, it makes morning coffee just a little better. Part of me thought it might make it seem like I never left the bed. Turns out, it's not a magic bench...

Magic or no magic. I love it all the same.

{hmmm... maybe it just needs some pillows...}

random monday {on tuesday}

Yesterday was one of those days. Those days when you feel booked, your to-do list is vast, you feel as though there is not enough time in the day, and then nothing actually gets done.

A phenomenon for sure.

So today, Random Tuesday, is all about doing things. Because why put off til tomorrow what you can do today?

Do make or wear gold sparkly pumps. Here's the DIY.

Do get a favorite photo made into a piece of art. I love this.

Do something silly. And plan a trip to Paris...

Do make a driftwood wall sculpture. And obsess over this decor.

Do fill mason jars with candles at your next dinner party. And invite me. Lovely.

Do learn how to tie a bow tie with this video... because it's wonderful. And you never know when you will need to steal your man's...

Happy Tuesday darlings! I hope you get many things done {many fabulous things that is}.

hold up summer

Hold up there summer... I don't know where you think you are going, but I am not done with you yet.

Don't try to fool me with your lipstick melting 100 degree temperatures. I see you trying to slink away.

Sure, the signs are subtle. A Halloween decoration here, a mum there, maybe even a Christmas bauble  peeking out from a store shelf. But they are there, those first bits of fall.

So this weekend, to combat your fleeting ways, I will be rocking my brightest nail color, my shiniest sandals, and my spaghetti strappiest dresses.

{Yep, I said strappiest}.

like a woman

There is nothing like a wrap dress to make a woman feel, well... like a woman.

This one makes me think of Marilyn Monroe in 'Some Like It Hot.' Not that Marilyn sported a lime green wrap dress, but in the way it hugs the curves juuuuust right.

Not that I have curves like Marilyn, but a girl can try.

how does your garden grow? {part three}

How does your garden grow? Ours grows sideways.

Our baby tomatoes are all grown up. Their strong vines have overtaken their little bamboo braces so that they now lean on their sides. The plants seem to like their slant though, because the once yellow blossoms have morphed into round green fruit. Some have even ripened into orange/red deliciousness.

My favorite thing about the garden tomatoes (aside from their deliciousness) is by far their smell. Not necessarily the fruit, but the plant itself. I wish I could write the smell to be as vivid as it is. Like fresh, and earth, and summer.

a white room

Well, it's white, our newly painted office. Powdered Sand to be exact, but who are we kidding, it's white.

 I love white interiors. So why does this white room strike so much fear into my new home interior designing heart?

As each brush stroke made our new color more visible, thoughts of doubt rushed through my head. Is it too stark? Too bright? Too... gulp... boring? How can such a simple color evoke so much fear?

Like a blank canvas, our room calls out too be filled. Next step, curtains. I'm thinking white...

So very cool! I wanna be a Covergirl when I grow up (imagine me saying that in the "But daddy, IIII want an oompa loompa now" voice).

Exactly how I would do the happiest place on earth... with a little bit of sparkle.

Oh Monday... sigh, you are full of so much loveliness. Are you all having loveliness in your Mondays? I do hope so!

where it all began

So far, each year, since that perfect day, we have been able to go back.

Back to where it all began. Serra Cross Park in Ventura, CA.

Each time we return, we can relive it.

How it had been a beautiful weekend and then Sunday came, our wedding day. How the fog and the gray rolled into beachside Southern California. How I was an hour late {to my own wedding}, but it was meant to be. Because the sun rolled out and lit up our vows with its warm glow.

We made promises. To each other and to God.

And then he kissed me.

around the house

I feel like it has been sometime since I shared the progress we have made in filling our home.

Well, there hasn't been much.

The house still echos for the most part, but knick knacks... you know those little things that really don't have any purpose other than to make you smile? Yes those. Those we've got.

1. Succulents // They make me think of Santa Barbara. And there is nothing like a houseplant to make a house a home... in a very 1970's way.

2. LED blue twinkle lights // I don't know where their permanent place will be, but right now our mantle glows blue.

3. Sand dollars // Did you know that if you break open a sand dollar you will find little doves inside? I feel this should be displayed.

4. Green chair // One of the only pieces upstairs with an actual function. This cozy green chair and footstool is the perfect spot for reading a good book... or curling up with our book of wedding pictures.

5. Chalkboard // Our kitchen chalkboard could display something practical like recipes or a grocery list. I prefer the lyrics to Sonny and Cher's "I Got You Babe."

6. Glass fishing floats // Just another one of those landlocked state necessities...
