a flower blooms

There must be some symbolism I can uncover to describe this occurrence. A flower blooming in the cold of a Kansas February.

Perhaps if I stare long enough, the metaphor will come to me. What lessons can we gather from the promise of spring in the bleakest of times? Surely there is something here that 90 years from now bored high school students in their English class can dissect for the not so obvious meaning. Something very The Scarlet Letter or Lord of the Flies.

Alas, nothing. Because the truth of the matter is, the last two days have felt more like spring than February and this is just a mighty pretty flower.

P.S. Yes! That is Gee! She lives! Safe in the warmth of the sunniest window seat in our home, safe from the bitter cold of the outdoors, and safe from the neglect of a bad bad plant mama.
